The Guilford College women's volleyball team kick-started its two-day road trip in Virginia at Eastern Mennonite University. The Quakers swept the Royals, 3-0.
Eastern Mennonite grasped an early lead, jumping ahead by six points (10-4). Guilford battled back in the set and with a seven-point run, the team found itself in front, 14-12. The Royals tied the set up at 14 but the Quakers regained control and went on to win the set, 25-19.
Set two was similar to the first with the home team taking the early lead, 8-3. GC went on a 7-1 run to edge ahead by one (10-9). After a bit of back and forth, Guilford outscored Eastern Mennonite 10-1 to lead 22-13. The Quakers did not relinquish the lead and a kill by
Natalie Moore capped off the 25-17 set win.
The third set was the most evenly matched with both squads exchanging the advantage. Trailing by two (20-18), GC scored five consecutive points to take a 23-20 lead. EMU struggled to pull within two as Guilford won the set (25-22) and the match (3-0).
Moore led the offense with 13 kills while corralling 10 digs.
Maddi Page assisted on 25 points while
Vanessa Johnson and
Madison Duvall finished with four blocks each.
Guilford (11-2, 2-0) concludes its trip in Virginia on Saturday, September 23 against Shenandoah University. First serve is slated for 11:00 a.m.
