Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dominant First Half Launches GC to Double-Digit Victory

The Guilford College women's basketball team took on Randolph College in an evening ODAC conference matchup. The Quakers dominated in the first half, leading to victory, 85-60.

The game opened with a layup by Courtney McMillan. The Quakers (11-4, 6-3) went on a 12-0 run, not allowing their opponents a chance to score. Not until 3:50 left were the WildCats (9-6, 3-6) able to make their first basket, immediately followed by a three from McMillan. The period ended in GC's favor, 18-3.

The second started in a similar fashion to the first, with another opening layup by McMillan. The WildCats were able to tally some points, mostly from free-throws. However, Quaker defense and offense were working in harmony, allowing GC to remain ahead as the halftime buzzer sounded, 39-16.

The third quarter opened up yet again with some deja vu as McMillan scored another layup. The WildCats came into the second half with more fire than the first but still unable to best the Quakers. GC kept their advantage, 20-17, ending the period with a double-digit 20 point lead, 56-26.

With just one more quarter remaining, Guilford's Markayla Massenburg made a three-pointer to set the tone. With about four minutes left, Guilford offense kicked in once again with layups made by Carleigh Perry, Anna Giannopoulou, and McMillan. With just over a minute left, Giannopoulou scored an impressive seven points for her team.

McMillan was on fire tonight, totaling 30 points. Additionally, Perry was the leader in rebounds and steals, nine and six, respectively.

As a team, the Quakers' defense was impenetrable with 32 turnovers on the night, including 25 steals. GC led in the points off turnovers margin as well (31-13).

The Quakers remain at home for their next match on January 17 against Virginia Wesleyan University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
