EMORY, Va. – It was a historic day for the Guilford College rugby team, as they competed in 10's action for the first time in program history, ultimately dropping their history-making match to Division-II Emory & Henry University, 53-32 on Sunday at the campus of Emory & Henry University.
The Quakers complete the fall portion of their schedule at 2-6-2 while the Wasps improve to 8-3-2.
E&H got off to an early start by touching down for five within the matches' first five minutes. Guilford followed up with a beautiful offload from
Jasmine Cartwright (Kalispell, Mont.) to
JoJo Gonzalez-Jimenez (Inland Empire, Calif.) to put the Quakers on the board. Come halftime, GC held the edge over the Wasps, 31-22.
Captain
Jaden Gary (Charlotte, N.C.) led the team through a challenging second half, touching down for two tries completing a hat trick on the day. However, E&H pulled ahead and when time expired, the score finished at 53-32.
Despite the results, it serves as a great wrap to the Quakers fall slate, as they look forward to their inaugural XV's season in Fall of 2025. In the meantime, Guilford rugby will rest up through the winter before hitting the field for 7's play in the spring.
