Greensboro, N.C.- The Guilford College women's lacrosse team traveled up north for an afternoon non-conference matchup against Ferrum College at the W.B. Adams Stadium. A close game throughout, but the Quakers' first quarter deficit proved detrimental as the game progressed, ultimately giving the Panthers the victory, 13-11.
With this loss for the Quakers, their record now drops to 1-2. For the Panthers, their win streak now becomes 2-0.
Goalie, Zenna Carson (Blacksburg, Va.) had her work cutout for herself, playing a full 60 minutes. With Ferrum attempting 31 shots, Carson was able to save nine and allow 13 in goal. Opposing keepers Amanda Thomas and Faith Chubbuck combined for less saves than Carson, but tallied a better save percentage on the day.
The leading goal scorer for the Quakers was Kylie Horn (Fairfax, Va.) as she achieved five goals, accounting for almost half of GC's overall points. Additionally,
Riley Gravley (Greensboro, N.C.) and
Kylie Wood (Greensboro, N.C.) each had two of their own.
Maggie Hartnett made three assists, a game-high, two of which were back-to-back in the second period at the 11:25 and 10:32 mark. The third assist was within the fourth quarter with 10:45 left in the contest, making the score tied at 10. This tie was short lived, as Ferrum went on a hat trick of points all within two minutes at the end of the fourth, making it 13-10. With 2:46 remaining, Wood threw one in frame, bringing the Quakers to a two point deficit. GC struggled to tally anymore points as time ran out on the board, ending in an upset 13-11.
The Quakers remain on the road for their next matchup against Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C. for a night contest Tuesday, February 27. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
