WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Headlined by two each by
Marcus Tate (Atlanta, Ga.) and
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt), seven personal records fell for the Guilford College track & field team at the Flat is Fast Invite hosted by JDL Fast Track on Sunday.
This weekend's event saw 28 collegiate teams have athletes compete with all three NCAA Divisions, NAIA, and NCCAA institutions in attendance. No team scores were kept at the competition. The Quakers had 14 total athletes participate on the day, 11 men and three women and with several athletes still working to set their initial marks at the collegiate level, seven different GC participants competed in a total of ten events for the first time.
For the second-straight weekend, it was
Jaden Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) who was Guilford's top finisher as he took seventh out of 55 competitors in the unseeded 400m with a new collegiate-best time of 52.98. One of six Quakers to compete in the event,
Yassine Allam (Holly Springs, N.C.) was next taking 26
th with a 55.63 mark.
Trenten Torain (Durham, N.C.) and
Jerome Moore (Mount Olive, N.C.) both also ran the event, as did
Malik Hargrove (Warren County, N.C.) and
Kendal Lowe (Winston-Salem, N.C.) for the first time each.
Parnell had the following two highest finishes for Guilford as she eclipsed her previous PRs in the 400m and the Long Jump. In the running event, she completed a 1:09.85 venture to take 20
th before leaping 4.26m to take 22
nd in the latter competition. She was the leading finisher of the trio of Guilford women to partake in the meet as
Piper Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.) and
Natalie Viera (Winston-Salem, N.C.) were registered in the 800m for the first time collegiately, taking 37
th and 42
nd respectively. Campbell also competed in the one mile run.
Elsewhere,
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) set a new best with a 10.17 time in the 60m Hurdles, finishing 24
th and
Akeem Kaiuway (Greensboro, N.C.) took 39
th with a PR toss of 8.43m in the Shot Put. Tate also set two new PRs, finishing 36
th in the Long Jump with a 5.56m leap and finishing the 60m in 7.86 seconds to take 66
th.
Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) rounded out top-30 finishers for the Quakers, taking 29
th in the Long Jump.
Guilford will get their first look at how they stack up against some fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foes next weekend as they will compete in the Bast Cregger Multi Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. Competition will be split across two days and will begin on Friday, January 31
st.
