Men’s Soccer Fights to a Draw After an Early PK Goal

Soaring offensive play after opening defensive struggles on both sides would lead to Hercules capitalizing for the Quakers.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Guilford men's soccer team (3-8-2, 0-3-1 ODAC) fought a good fight for ball possession opportunities against ODAC foe Randolph-Macon College (7-2-3, 1-1-2 ODAC). The Quakers faltered early in the opening minutes from the Yellow-Jackets offensive strides, but massive foul troubles would open the Quakers chances to strike, resulting in a 1-1 tie on Saturday evening, at Appenzeller Field in the Armfield Athletic Center.

Ildis Vital-Peraza (Vienna, Va.) held strong throughout the entirety of regulation for Guilford. Vital-Peraza would reel in three saves off one goal against, from 10 shots faced, sending his record to 2-7-1 on the season. Randolph-Macon's keeper, Ethan Chenoweth, drew the nod for the Yellow Jackets this evening, scooping up two saves off of one goal against, from eight shot attempts, moving his record to 7-2-3 on the season.

Guilford's offense was hitting on all cylinders, kicking things off after a massive Yellow Jacket defensive mistake, leading to a Chris Hercules (Greensboro, N.C.) PK goal made in the 39th minute of regulation. Isaac Garbia (Copenhagen, Denmark) launched Guilford's chances to score with his two shot attempts in the evening. Ken Vasquez (Pittsboro, N.C.) and Seth Meade (Maryville, Tenn.) were superb with the ball tonight with each shot attempt being on goal.

Charis Tchatat was superb for Randolph-Macon with his possession of the ball, swinging from a distance to get the Yellow Jackets on the board in the 14th minute of play. Tyler Oakes was precise in his offensive play with two shot attempts, one being on goal. Davian Jackson drove Randolph-Macon to plenty of scoring occasions with his two shot attempts on the night.

Kickoff would open as a clash to see who can get on the board first. Fouls and free kicks on both sides would lead to a Yellow Jackets opening goal by Tchatat, assisted by Damien Jackson.

A continuation of the same story would induce more fouls and yellow cards being drawn, leading Guilford to strike off a foul inside the 18-yard box, driving Hercules to secure the PK goal after the Randolph-Macon blunder on defense.

The Yellow Jackets would drive down field to open the second-half, lopsiding the Quakers chances at a game-clinching goal. However, holding their ground to keep them away from the net.

Although Guilford was off to a rocky start from defensive slip-ups, too many flaws from the Yellow Jackets would increase the scoring chances for the Quakers. The bow was placed on tonight's match after an ascending performance on offense, resulting in a 1-1 draw between both squads.

The Quakers are back at home next Wednesday for another Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) clash against Averett University on Wednesday, October 15th, 2025 at Appenzeller Field in the Armfield Athletic Center. First kick at 7:00PM.
