HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Guilford College volleyball team (12-7, 4-4 ODAC) extended its conference win total Friday night with a commanding 3-0 sweep (26-24, 25-21, 25-18) over Eastern Mennonite University (5-15, 1-5 ODAC) inside Yoder Arena.
The Quakers were fueled by a balanced offensive attack as
Chrisbel Alcantara (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and
Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) each tallied 14 kills.
Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) tallied 31 assists to pair with nine digs. Defensively,
Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) led the charge with 12 digs, and
Sheryangelis Cay Barbosa (Juncos, Puerto Rico) added seven steady passes in support.
Leading the way for Eastern Mennonite were Kassidy Meadows with nine kills, McKenzie Taylor with 12 assists, and Emerson Moats with a game-high 15 digs.
In the opening set, Guilford rallied from a 19-10 deficit, using a surge of kills from Alcantara and Moore to complete the comeback and take the frame 26-24.
The Quakers kept rolling in the second frame, as Moore notched six kills to help seal the 25-21 victory.
Guilford controlled the third from start to finish, taking the set 25-18 to secure the Quakers' 12th win of the season.
The Quakers are back on the court tomorrow, Saturday, October 18th, traveling to Winchester, Va., to face the Hornets of Shenandoah University. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
