Men’s Soccer Toppled by Washington & Lee in a Road Conference Clash

Isaac Garbia’s three shots could not do the trick offensively to put the Quakers on the board in regulation.

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Guilford men's soccer team (3-10-2, 0-5-1 ODAC) traveled up north for a matinee conference showdown against Washington & Lee University (7-2-5, 5-0-1 ODAC). The Quakers would hold numerous scoring chances throughout all 90 minutes of regulation. However, Guilford could not strike from the distance due to a non-defensive showing from allowing a battering 22 shot attempts to the Generals. Guilford would fall to Washington & Lee, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Alston Parker Watt Field.

Ildis Vital-Peraza (Vienna, Va.) drew the start on the road in an afternoon Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) conference game. Vital-Peraza snagged six saves, from three goals against, off a shattering 22 shot attempts. He would be on the losing end of the matchup, dropping his record to 2-9-1 on the season. Washington & Lee's keeper, Will Joseph, held his ground for all 90 minutes in goal for the Generals. Joseph would scoop up one save, off of 10 shot attempts, moving his record up to 7-1-2 on the year.

Guilford would be able to juke around the Generals defensive front for most of the match, but would not be able to fire any attempts into the back of the net. Isaac Garbia (Copenhagen, Denmark) led the charge for the Quakers with his three shot attempts in the afternoon. Chris Hercules (Greensboro, N.C.) would follow-suit in displaying his accuracing with two shot attempts, one being on goal. Jaykob Garbia (Copenhagen, Denmark) drove the Quakers in having several opportunities remain non-scoreless, driving in two shot attempts overall.

Washington & Lee would perform smoothly on the offensive front with Justin Ceccanecchio advancing the Generals to success with his one goal scored off of five shot attempts, two being on goal. Buster Couhig showed a massive display in his ball-keeping with his one goal off of five shots on the day. Aaron Cordova benefited coming off of the bench with his one goal off of one shot attempt.

The game would kickoff with the Generals pushing forward through the Quakers defensive front, opening the scoring with a Couhig goal, assisted by Ceccanecchio in the 6th minute of regulation.

Washington & Lee would cash in moments later after multiple shot chances and fouls off of both sides. Ceccanecchio would send a dart into the back of the net, pushing the Generals up two at the 18th minute which would hold the same as the first half would wrap up.

Guilford would hold minimal opportunities in the opening minutes of the second period with Washington & Lee holding their dominance with eight shots to open in the first 25 minutes after halftime.

Cordova for the Generals would put this game on ice with a closing goal in the 78th minute that was assisted by Couhig and Ayush Kataria. Guilford's precise showing in scoring opportunities would falter as they would drop this match 3-0, in favor of the Generals.

Guilford will be back on the road next for another Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) showdown against Randolph College on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025 at WildCat Stadium. First kick commences at 7:00PM.
