Quakers Sweep Erskine Behind Serving Surge

Cavataio and Duvall fuel dominant performance from the service line

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College volleyball team (14-8, 5-5 ODAC) added another win to its season total Friday night with a commanding 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-10, 25-21) over NCAA Division II opponent Erskine College (7-16, 5-9 CC) inside Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Quakers were sharp across all phases, powered by standout serving as Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.) combined for nine aces — four from Cavataio and five from Duvall — to keep the Flying Fleet off balance throughout the match.

Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) led the offense with 12 kills on a .296 hitting percentage, while Duvall followed closely with 10 kills and a .533 mark. Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) directed the attack with 32 assists, as Cavataio and Zoe Whisnant (Greensboro, N.C.) anchored the back row with 10 and eight digs, respectively.

Erskine was paced by Bryce Bendig, who posted seven kills, while Kinslee Smith contributed 12 assists and Kerri O'Shields collected seven digs.

In the opening set, Guilford built an early cushion behind a serving run from Cavataio and kills from Duvall to claim the 25-18 win.

The second frame was all Quakers, as Guilford dominated 25-10 behind Moore's four kills and  Chrisbel Alcantara's (San Juan, Puerto Rico) three.

The third set saw Erskine battle back, but Guilford's balanced offense and late push from Moore secured the sweep, 25-21.

The Quakers return to action on Tuesday, October 28th, hosting Clinton College at Ragan-Brown Field House. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
