Men’s Soccer Soars Past Eastern Mennonite On Senior Day For Their First Conference Victory

On the back of three goals off of 18 shot attempts, the Quakers cruised past the Royals defensive front for their first outright conference win in three seasons.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Guilford men's soccer team (4-11-2, 1-6-1 ODAC) were back at home for one final time this season to face Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) foe Eastern Mennonite University (6-6-5, 1-5-2 ODAC). The Quakers held control for the entirety of play off of no showing from the Royals defense, firing on all cylinders resulting in a 3-0 decision in favor of the Quakers on Saturday afternoon, at Appenzeller Field in the Armfield Athletic Center for their first outright conference victory since October 26th, 2022 over No. 7/9 nationally-ranked Washington & Lee University.

Pregame, the Quakers honored their 10 senior players, Chris Kelley (Lexington, N.C.), Enuka Taylor (Charleston, S.C.), Angel Aragon (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Cameron Robinson (Garner, N.C.), Jeremy Pless (Titusville, Fla.), Jake Carter (Madison, N.C.), Lucas Wheeler (Locust, N.C.), Elijah Stout (Atlanta, Ga.), George Wall (Willmington, N.C.), Grayson Hale (Clayton, N.C.) for their contributions to the Guilford men's soccer program.

Once the match began, Ildis Vital-Peraza (Vienna, Va.) drew the start for the Quakers in goal. Vital-Peraza was superb in snagging two saves off of seven shot attempts, throughout 88 minutes of regulation. Chris Kelley (Lexington, N.C.) would also see some time at the net, scooping up one save off of one shot attempt in two minutes of play. Vital-Peraza would be on the winning-end of the battle, improving his record to 3-10-1 on the year. Eastern Mennonite's keeper, Andrew Arledge, was in net for all 90 minutes of the match for the Royals. Arledge would reel in three saves from two goals against, off of a battering 18 shot attempts. He would wind-up on the losing end of the game, dropping his record to 3-5-2 on the season.

Guilford's offensive performance was on point from beginning to end, having their third-best performance in shot attempts on the year as a squad. Isaac Garbia (Copenhagen, Denmark) would dominate in possession of the ball for the Quakers, firing one goal off of three shot attempts, two being on goal. Ken Vasquez (Pittsboro, N.C.) and Demetrio Candela-Habana (Winston-Salem, N.C.) would each cash in for a goal off of one shot attempt each for Guilford. Hector Rodriguez (Sanford, N.C.) was in command offensively for the Quakers, striking on five shot attempts, two being on goal.

Eastern Mennonite's offensive gameplay was minimal for the entirety of the conference clash, with Iverson Garcia leading the charge in the battle, off of his two shot attempts, one being on goal. Yan Cesar would follow-suit for the Royals, sending two shot attempts for the Quakers, one being on goal. Elijah Byrd would contribute any opportunity Eastern Mennonite would get, launching one shot attempt, which was on goal.

Guilford kicked off the game scoring early from sneaking around the Royals defensive front for the opening header score by Garbia, assisted by Jeremy Pless (Titusville, Fla.) off the corner kick in the 8th minute.

Things would get rocky as the clock ticked towards the half, with multiple offensive miscues on both teams in shot attempts being off-frame and defensive players crossing the attacking-zone for offsides fouls.

The Quakers would hold authority in possession, numerous shot attempts towards the goal off of continuous defensive fouls caused by the Royals.

The game would be put on ice after two goals in the last fifteen minutes. Candela-Habana would cash in from the cross-assist by Rodriguez in the 78th minute. Vasquez would wrap things up for the Quakers with a lone goal of his own in the 89th minute, leading to a 3-0 decision in favor of Guilford.

The Quakers will wrap up their 2025 campaign on the road against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Roanoke College on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025 at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. First kick at 7:00PM.
