GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College volleyball team (15-8, 5-5 ODAC) kept its momentum rolling Tuesday night inside Ragan-Brown Field House, defeating Clinton College (13-6, 1-0 NCCAA South) in straight sets (25-19, 25-15, 25-16). The win marks the Quakers' third consecutive 3-0 victory and extends their hot stretch to 23 sets won in their last 26.
Guilford came out composed and efficient, led by
Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.), who filled the stat sheet with a game-high 11 kills to go along with nine digs and four service aces.
Kaci Johnson (Winterville, N.C.) added nine kills while hitting .421, and
Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.) chipped in nine kills of her own, as well as two blocks.
Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) dished out 34 assists, while
Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) tallied 12 digs and five service aces.
The Golden Bears showed resilience throughout the night, highlighted by Alexia Cunningham's 10 kills and three blocks. Sierra Faulkner set the pace with 14 assists, while Charla White added a game-high 14 digs, and Sierra Smith posted 11 digs in a balanced defensive effort.
After ties and lead changes early in the first set, Guilford stormed back behind key swings from Johnson and
Chrisbel Alcantara (San Juan, Puerto Rico) to take control, closing the frame 25-19.
The Quakers carried that rhythm into the second set, fueled by Moore's back-to-back kills and a service run from Cavataio that built a decisive lead, wrapping up at 25-15.
The third set saw Guilford at its most dominant, hitting .462 as a team. Mapes connected with Alcantara, Johnson, and
Angel Brown (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) for quick kills, and a final ace from Mapes sealed the match 25-16 in front of a home crowd.
The Quakers are back in action on Saturday, November 1st, for a tri-match hosted by Hollins University in Roanoke, Va. Guilford faces Hollins at 11:00 a.m. in its final ODAC matchup of the regular season, followed by a 1:00 p.m. nonconference tilt with Johnson & Wales (N.C.).
