Quakers Stun Bridgewater, End Six-Year Drought

Moore, Duvall, and company power Guilford to milestone ODAC win on the road

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Guilford College volleyball team (8-6, 3-3 ODAC) earned its biggest win of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Bridgewater College (12-5, 5-2 ODAC) in Nininger Hall for the program's first victory over the Eagles since 2019. The Quakers claimed the match in four sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-21, 30-28), rallying after dropping the opener.

Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) and Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.) fueled the Quakers' attack with 13 kills each, while Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) directed the offense with 40 assists. On the defensive end, Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) steadied the back row with 12 digs.

Bridgewater countered with a strong effort from Faith DePew, who posted a match-high 17 kills. Lindsay Kelley distributed 32 assists, Anna Black added 15 digs, and Gabby Atwell chipped in 11 kills to pace the Eagles.

The Eagles came out firing behind DePew and Atwell, racing to a 25-18 win in the opener.

Guilford responded with a 25-17 victory, sparked by timely points from Haley Pasour (Winterville, N.C.) and Chrisbel Alcantara (San Juan, Puerto Rico).

With momentum building in the third set, the Quakers surged behind a .389 hitting percentage, and Alcantara sealed the win, 25–21, putting Guilford in front.

The finale was a back-and-forth thriller with 13 ties and eight lead changes. Bridgewater leaned on DePew's strong hitting, but Guilford countered with knockout swings from Duvall, and service pressure from Moore and Amber Chiarolanzio (Deep Gap, N.C.). Tied at 28-28, the Quakers closed with back-to-back points to secure the 30-28 clincher.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday, October 8th, at the University of Lynchburg. First serve is set for 6:00 P.M.
