Scott Steals the Show as Women’s Basketball Stifles Piedmont

Behind a career-best nine steals from Briahna Scott, the Quakers forced 28 total swipes in the Holiday Classic finale

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College women's basketball team (11-0, 2-0 ODAC) capped off the Guilford College Holiday Classic with a victory, defeating Piedmont University (3-8, 0-2 CCS) by a final score of 73-64 on Tuesday morning inside Ragan-Brown Field House. With the win, the Quakers advanced to 11-0 on the season, furthering their historic opening record once more.

Guilford's pressure defense set the tone throughout the contest, forcing 37 Piedmont turnovers and converting them into 33 points, gathering 28 total steals in the process. Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) was at the center of that effort, recording a career-high nine steals to go along with 16 points, six rebounds, and six assists, delivering a complete performance on both ends of the floor. Taylor Dunn (Charlotte, N.C.) added 17 points and five steals, followed closely by Julianna Walter (Taylorsville, N.C.), who finished with 11 points and four swipes.

Piedmont was led by Alexandria Willis, who posted a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Ava Hunter added 16 points, while Gracie Deetz finished with nine points and seven rebounds. Riley Bryan chipped in seven points and three assists.

The Quakers seized control early, opening the game with a dominant first quarter and building a 19-8 advantage punctuated by a three-pointer from Karly Glahn (Charlotte, N.C.) assisted by Dunn. Guilford continued to roll in the second frame, outscoring the Lions 25-10 to take a commanding 44-18 lead into halftime.

Piedmont responded in the third quarter behind a surge from Willis, trimming the deficit with a 25-point period. Despite the push, Guilford answered consistently and maintained separation, entering the final quarter ahead 61-43.

The Lions continued to battle in the fourth, but the Quakers remained composed down the stretch, closing out the game with a fast-break layup by Markayla Massenburg (Raleigh, N.C.) to secure the 73-64 victory and complete the Holiday Classic sweep.

The Quakers return to action on Wednesday, January 7, when they host conference opponent Randolph-Macon College inside the Ragan-Brown Field House. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
