LYNCHBURG, VA - On a nearly perfect spring day, the Guilford College Softball team (14-20, 5-11 ODAC) prevailed against the WildCats of Randolph College (6-28, 5-13 ODAC) for their away game, 2-0 in game one while game two's score was 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon at The Randolph College Softball Field.

Game One:
Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) (5-2) was electric for the Quakers and earned the win, tossing a complete-game shutout while scattering six hits, walking three, and striking out three. She kept the Randolph offense off balance all game, retiring the WildCats in order in three separate innings and stranding eight runners in total. Rylee Humble was handed the L but still had a solid showing in the circle, allowing six hits and striking out two over seven innings with no earned runs.
The Quakers got the ball rolling in the third when
Morgan Singletary (Laurel Hill, N.C.) tripled to right field followed by
Kaley Mitchell, (Lake Waccamaw, N.C.) reaching first on a Randolph mishap to bring Singletary home.
Olivia Shelton (Stokesdale, N.C.) had a day where she went 2-for-3 with an RBI in game one. Shelton doubled to left field causing Mitchell to score.Â
Kaci Johnson (Winterville, N.C.) and
Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) chimed in for Guilford and both went 1-for-3 at the plate.
Randolph had offensive opportunities with six hits, but was unable to score a run despite attempts from Humble, Chesney Shook, Edie Jennings, Desiree Scott, Haili Gonzalez, and Rachel Arce.
Game Two:

Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) (5-7) earned the dub with a complete-game effort in the circle, allowing 12 hits and four earned runs while striking out three across seven innings. Despite steady pressure from the WildCats, Gray worked out of key jams and got help from the outfield to make the right defensive plays. Austyn Moran was tagged for the loss, striking out five on 11 hits and five runs.

GC began full throttle in the first with Williams, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs, doubling to center field, driving in two RBIs to usher Johnson and Shelton, who went 3-for-4, to the promised land. Shortly thereafter,
Chloee Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) cracked a single to drive Williams home, making it 3-0. It was not until Makenzee Kenney drove in an RBI single to bring Humble home to the 'Cats in the second inning.

Laura Herzig was hit by a pitch that advanced Shook to second, Moran moved to third, causing Addie Bowen to score, making it 3-2 in the second inning.

Gray grounded out to bring home Williams in the third before Riley Shupe singled then advanced to third on the throw, causing Herzig to score, 4-3. The final stretch of action took place in the final inning where
Kendall Boggs (Stoneville, N.C.) went 1-for-1 and singled to advance Stoner and Gray while Shelton pranced to the plate.
Riley Murrish (Boerne, Texas) was also a factor as she went 2-for-3.

Lexi Hawkins put up a fighting chance towards the end when she singled to right field, driving in an RBI where Herzig scored for the WildCats, 6-4, but could not generate any more runs.

Guilford will travel up to Harrisonburg, VA to go head-to-head with the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University on Saturday, April 19 to continue the conference slate. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM in game one while game two is set for 3 PM.
