ASHLAND, Va.– The Guilford College men's lacrosse team (5-13, 3-7 ODAC) saw its 2025 season come to an end with a 23-4 loss to Randolph-Macon College (11-7,6-4 ODAC) in the opening round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Day Field
In a tough season finale, the Yellow Jackets overwhelmed the Quakers from the start, scoring eight unanswered goals in the first quarter and maintaining firm control throughout. Randolph-Macon out shot Guilford 52-18 and had a commanding 32-7 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts also controlled the ground ball game, scooping up 55 to Guilford's 24, and forced 26 Guilford turnovers while committing 20 of their own. Faceoffs were another key area, with RM-C winning 23-of-30. Despite the loss, Guilford completed 21-of-25 clear attempts and capitalized on 1-of-2 extra-man opportunities.
In-between the posts was
Darius Safavi-Abbassi (Culver City, Calif.) started the first half for Guilford making four saves while allowing 14 goals. The junior finishes the season with a .497 save percentage.
Gavin Dellinger (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) took over after halftime, recording five saves and conceding nine goals across the final two periods, concluding his save percentage at .402. Together, the Quaker goalkeepers faced relentless pressure as Randolph-Macon peppered them with 52 total shots. The Yellow Jackets saw Jack Twomey, Owen Gucwa and Jack Issacs take the stand in goal. As a whole, they face four shots on target while saving three of them.
Offensively for Guilford, four different players found the back of the net.
Bashwyn Fitch (Charleston, S.C.),
Jacob Mills (Culpeper, Va.),
Aimery Workman (High Point, N.C.), and
Davis Palombo (Greensboro, N.C.) each tallied a goal. Mills' strike came on a man-up opportunity, assisted by
Gavin Brown (Charleston, S.C.), who secured the only assist.
Wyatt Dwyer (Seattle, Wash) led the Quakers in the ground ball category, scooping seven, accompanied by one caused turnover.
Seth Woods (Hilton Head Island, S.C.),
Cam Walters (Greensboro, N.C.), and
Drew Sizemore (Greensboro, N.C) spearheaded the defensive efforts, notching a pair of caused turnovers each.
The first quarter set the tone as the Yellow Jackets exploded for eight goals, including tallies from Austin Payne, Tankersley, Carter, and Sinsebox. Guilford struggled to maintain possession and clear the ball effectively under Randolph-Macon's pressure. Despite efforts from defenders the Quakers found themselves trailing 8-0 at the end of the first.
The second half saw much of the same, with Workman scoring midway through the third quarter to bring the score to 15-3. Mills capped Guilford's scoring with a man-up goal in the fourth quarter, thanks to an assist from Brown. Unfortunately, Randolph-Macon continued to pour it on, adding five more goals to seal the 23-4 final.
This concludes the 2025 season for the Guilford College men's lacrosse team.
