Quakers Compete to Five Sets in Narrow Loss to Randolph-Macon

Moore, Alcantara, and Johnson pace Guilford with double-digit kills

Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College volleyball team (5-4, 1-2 ODAC) pushed conference opponent Randolph-Macon College (8-2, 3-0 ODAC) to the brink on Saturday afternoon inside the Ragan-Brown Field House, but the Yellow Jackets escaped with a five-set victory, 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11).

Natalie Moore (Pittsburgh, Pa.) powered the Quakers with a double-double of 16 kills and 19 digs, while Chrisbel Alcantara (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added 15 kills of her own. Kaci Johnson (Winterville, N.C.) chipped in 14 kills on a .286 hitting percentage, and Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) directed the offense with 45 assists while contributing 20 digs for a double-double. Amber Chiarolanzio (Deep Gap, N.C.) capped the performance with a match-high five service aces.

For Randolph-Macon, Allison Lach powered the offense with a match-high 20 kills, while Mia Goode and Ella Courtney provided strong support with 15 and 10 kills, respectively. Kaitlyn Kaplan ran the defense with 24 digs, and Caitlin Smith kept the Yellow Jackets in rhythm, dishing out 51 assists to go along with 13 digs.

The Quakers struck first, controlling the opening frame 25-19 behind efficient hitting from Alcantara and key saves from Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). Randolph-Macon countered in the second, pulling even with a 25-23 win.

In the pivotal third set, Guilford built a 23-14 lead, but the Yellow Jackets stormed back to steal it, 26-24. Refusing to fold, the Quakers responded in the fourth as Moore powered a 25-20 victory to force a decisive fifth. The final set remained close until Randolph-Macon pulled away late for the 15-11 clincher, backed by Courtney's four kills in the abbreviated frame.

After their strong showing today, the Quakers are back in action for a tri-match at Carolina University on Saturday, September 27th. They take on the Bruins of Carolina University at 11:00 A.M. and the Wasps of Emory & Henry University at 1:00 P.M.
