FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Guilford College men's tennis team (0-5, 0-0 ODAC) concluded their weekend road trip on Sunday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Monarchs of Methodist University (1-1, 0-0 USA South) at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center. Despite a strong showing at the top of the doubles lineup, the Quakers were unable to halt a deep Methodist squad on their home courts.
The highlight of the day for Guilford came at the No. 1 doubles position. The pairing of
Andres Mercedes (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and
Emmanuel Oye (Clayton, N.C.) delivered a resilient performance, defeating Matthew Hurley and Decklan Rayner 6-4. However, the Monarchs secured the doubles point by taking the remaining two flights.
Mercedes, Oye,
George Hardie (Liberty, N.C.),
Alex Brown (Burlington, N.C.),
Turner Johnson (Oak Ridge, N.C.), and
Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) all put up determined efforts in their respective singles matches against a skilled Methodist lineup.
The Quakers will remain on the road for their next match, battling Pfeiffer University on Friday, March 6th, in Misenheimer, N.C.. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
