Lexington, Va. (4/20/07) -- Guilford College's
women's tennis bid for a league title concluded Friday in the
quarterfinal round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
Tournament at Washington and Lee University. Third-seeded
Bridgewater eliminated the sixth-seeded Quakers from the
championship bracket with a 7-2 victory Friday afternoon. Guilford
(11-5) reached the quarterfinals with a 9-0 victory over
11th-seeded Randolph-Macon Woman's College (1-13) earlier in the
day.
Guilford sophomore Lia Williams won both of her
matches at fifth singles in straight sets. She also teamed with
Morgan Howard for a pair of wins at third
doubles.
The Quakers' 11-5 record marks the program's best since the 1997
team went 14-4.
Guilford plays seventh-seeded Emory & Henry Saturday (4/21)
morning at 10:00 a.m. The winner advances to Sunday morning's
fifth-place match against the winner of Saturday's Sweet
Briar-Roanoke consolation contest.
