Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Guilford College women's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 ODAC) wrapped up their fall season with a strong showing on Saturday, September 20th, at the annual Battle of the Blue Ridge tournament in the Van Der Meer Tennis Center. The Quakers shined amidst the fierce competition of the tournament, which included ODAC opponents from Sweet Briar College, University of Lynchburg, Randolph College, and Shenandoah University.
In singles action,
McKenna Merritt (Dobson, N.C.) picked up a key win over Ari Venturi of Sweet Briar, 6-3, 7-5, while
Carolina Dirk (Port Aransas, TX) dominated in her match against Alex Guilarte of Sweet Briar, winning 6-1, 6-0.
Chandler Sizemore (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) battled hard but fell to Sweet Briar's Maggie Minton.
The doubles competition saw Guilford's pairings in action as Dirk and
Erika Mendez (Asheville, N.C.) posted a commanding 6-0 victory over Sweet Briar's Guilarte and Lucia Bovard, while
Zara Goolsby (Greensboro, N.C.) and
Amy Soto Salgado (Conover, N.C.) earned a 6-3 win against Sweet Briar's Atty Bestwick and Mallory Davis. Meanwhile,
Ashley Belnap (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Sizemore faced a tough matchup against Sweet Briar's Minton and Venturi, falling 6-1.
With hard-fought performances across the board, the Quakers end their fall campaign on a high note, looking to carry that momentum into the upcoming spring season when they return to play on February 28th, 2026, facing Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA.
