LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Guilford College's women's tennis team wins a tight 5-4 match against Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Randolph College Saturday.
Guilford (7-7, 4-6 ODAC) and Randolph (9-6, 4-6 ODAC) split singles evenly, 3-3. The Quakers' bestest the Wildcats in doubles, 2-1.
Guilford's Kleimeier defeated her third singles opponent, Anna Culpepper, 6-2, 6-4. Allison Hewitt won at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-0. Fernanda Gonzalez represented the Quakers' third singles victory with her 6-4, 6-1 win at sixth singles. Haley Andrews dropped a tight match in tiebreak, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.
Andrews and Allie Guy teamed up at first doubles to defeat Randolph's Patricia Verdezoto and Kaitlyn Kolster, 8-5. The Quakers' third doubles tandem of Gonzalez and Hewitt won 8-6. Kleimeier and Natalie Sutton lost in a tough second doubles match in tiebreak, 9-8 (7-5).
Guilford plays its final match of the season at home tomorrow, Apr. 14 against Washington and Lee University. The ODAC foe is undefeated (10-0) in conference and is ranked 16th in the Apr. 11 ITA Division III National Rankings.
