Quakers Efforts Undone as Wasps Battle Back

GREENSBORO, NC. -- The Guilford College women's basketball team were edged by former-ODAC foe Emory & Henry on Sunday afternoon, 48-46. 

 

THE BASICS

  • Records: Emory & Henry 3-1, Guilford 1-3

  • Score: Emory & Henry 48, Guilford 46

  • Location: Ragan-Brown Field House - Greensboro, NC

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The contest kicked off with three-pointers from each squad, Guilford's coming first. GC's bucket was made by Alexis Woods.

  • Guilford was able to establish another three-point margin at 6:17 of a J'la Hinson layup. The hosts were able to maintain their advantage, closing out the opening quarter with a 20-13.

  • Opening the second half, Carleigh Perry made a three-point assist by Hinson. Both teams continued to put up points as E&H was able to catch up and tie the game 26-26 with 1:58 on the clock.

  • The Quakers found themself trailing towards the end of the second frame. E&H owned a two point lead heading into halftime, 28-26.

  • Emory and Henry went up 32-26 to open the second half of the contest. With help from Perry, Hinson and Courtney McMillian, Guilford was able to remain close as the third quarter came to an end, 39-32.

  • With less than 10 seconds remaining in the contest, Perry was in perfect position outside of the arc to put GC up by one, but her attempt was stolen by a traveling call. Guilford fell by a narrow margin of two, 48-46.

  • While falling short on the scoreboard, the Quakers out rebounded the Wasps, 35-23.

 

LEADING THE QUAKES

  • Leading her team in scoring was J'la Hinson who put up 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had three assists. 

  • Second in points, Carleigh Perry put up 10. 

  • Abby Kennedy tallied 10 rebounds, seven defensive and three offensive. 

  • Second in rebounds, Courtney McMillan had a mark of nine.

 

NEXT TIME

Taking time off for Thanksgiving, Guilford will return to action on Wednesday, December 1 as it hosts Randolph for a 7 p.m. meeting.
