Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

GC Tames Royals

The Guilford College women's volleyball team welcomed the Royals of Eastern Mennonite for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) showdown. The Quakers came out on top, 3-1.

The opening set started off with both teams trading points until Guilford had a 9-5 advantage. Eastern Mennonite won the next four to tie the set at nine. GC responded by taking 14 of the next 18 points to pull within one of the set win (24-15). After a Royal kill, Natalie Moore closed the set with a kill, 25-16.

Similar to the first, the two squads had a back-and-forth battle when EMU opened a 14-11 edge. The Quakers answered and took the lead, 17-16 but the Royals went on a 7-1 run to lead by five (23-18). Eastern Mennonite went on to win the set, 25-19.

In the third, Guilford grasped early control and doubled up EMU, 12-6. The Royals tried to cut the deficit but were not able to get within four points. The Quakers won the set by 10 points (25-15).

The fourth set was an even match and as GC trailed one (5-4), the team rattled off eight-straight points including three aces by Madison Duvall. Leading 12-5, Guilford never looked back as back-to-back kills by Cam Blankenship won the set (25-14), and the match (3-1).

Blankenship led the attack with 13 kills while Kaci Johnson added 10. Vanessa Johnson finished the night with nine kills and three blocks while Maddi Page had 36 assists. As a team, the Quakers hit for .278 and had a receiving percentage of .938.

Guilford hosts Shenandoah University on Saturday, October 15 on Senior Day. Start time is 11:00 a.m.
