The Guilford College men's basketball team traveled to NCAA Division I Davidson College to take on the Wildcats. The Quakers fell by the score of 87-64.
For the start of the game, Guilford broke the ice as
Julius Burch hit a hook shot just inside the free throw line. From there, Davidson began to take over. Hit two three-point shots and a backdoor layup to lead 8-2 at the media timeout, 15:57.
Out of the timeout, Guilford forced a couple of stops and followed up with back-to-back layups by Burch and
Myles Washington. The Wildcats with a three-point play and a dunk to jump ahead 13-6. The Quakers did not back down as
Tyler Dearman hit a layup and then a three-point from the right wing from
Gabe Proctor. GC trailed 13-11 at the 11:18 mark.
Over the next three minutes, Davidson kept at least a two-point lead until
Jorden Davis hit a floating layup to cut the deficit to one (16-15). Two possessions later, the Wildcats hit a three to increase the lead to four, 19-15.
Davidson began to open up its advantage with three three-pointers and led 28-20 with 3:29 left in the first half. The hosts extended their lead to 11 (36-25) by the time the halftime horn sounded.
In the second half, the Wildcats kept the momentum and held a 45-30 lead at the media timeout, 15:46. From that point on, Davidson kept control of the game and went on to win by the 23-point margin.
Davis led the Quakers with 16 points while Proctor finished with 11.
Guilford hosts Methodist University on Tuesday, November 8 for the first home game of the season. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
