The Guilford College men's basketball went head-to-head with Bridgewater College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup. The Quakers were able to defeat the Eagles, 81-67.
Opening the first half within minutes, the Quakers (16-5, 12-2) started the lead 5-0 with a jumper and a three pointer by Liam Ward. The Eagles (8-13, 4-9) put their first points on the board at 18:13.
Bridgewater tied the game 5-5 and took the lead at 16:05 but it was not long until Guilford were up again. Most of the first half belonged to Guilford but both teams were playing with good defense.
In the middle of the first half, Guilford was up by seven (19-12) with a three pointer by Joah Logan. The Quakers went to work and kept adding to their lead. With just 19 seconds left in the first, Jordan Davis made two free throws to give GC a 44-27 lead.
Coming out of halftime, the Quakers opened up with Ward making a jumper putting GC up by almost 20 (46-27). Both teams continued to work on the court with defensive plays and intense moments while scoring back-and-forth.
The Eagles and Quakers were able to put up 15 points by the middle of the second half. Although Bridgewater was trying to stay up with the Quakers, the Quakers remained in a big lead, 67-47, at 9:14 with a three pointer by Logan.
Bridgewater closed the gap tremendously with three minutes on the clock scoring back and forth with the Quakers. The Eagles used an 11-1 run to cut the difference to seven, 72-65.
Back to back missed shots from both teams, the Quakers were able to find themselves winning the game gaining an extra eight points with help from Ward,
Julius Burch,
Tyler Dearman, and
Jaylen Gore. Guilford went on to win by 14.
Ward led all scorers with 25 points, going 9-13 from the field and nine rebounds. Burch finished with 15 points while Davis added 12 points with three assists and two steals.
The Quakers shot 44.8-percent (26-58) from the field with 23 second chance points. GC also out rebounded the Eagles 41-32 in the game.
Guilford will travel to Roanoke on Wednesday, February 16 to face the Maroons. Tip-off is at 7:00 p.m.
