Guilford Faces Washington & Lee

The Guilford College women's basketball team fell against Washington and Lee Saturday afternoon. The Quakers fell to the Generals, 75-60.

Within two minutes of the first period, Washington and Lee (18-4, 15-1) made a three pointer followed by the Quakers (6-13, 4-10)  making a three by Caroline Wilkerson. Guilford took the lead at 6:17 with a good jumper by J'la Hinson.

Hinson scored four-consecutive points which allowed GC to keep the upper hand. With just 57 seconds left on the clock, the Generals came in to tie the game, 12-12, but Lindsay Gauldin was able to gain the lead again for the Quakers in the last two seconds of the quarter.

Opening the second, both teams made back-to-back layups with GC still in the lead. The Generals took the lead at 8:37 by two but Guilford was able to stay right behind. It started to go downhill for the Quakers towards the middle of the second period as Washington and Lee ended with a six-point lead, 39-33.

The third quarter started off with Guilford trailing behind by four points after a Gauldin make. GC was able to put up 13 points with help from Gauldin, Hinson, and Carleigh Perry, while the Generals put up 14. Out of those 13 points, Gauldin put up eight.

Opening the fourth stanza, Washington and Lee made a three pointer within seconds. Hinson answered with a three of her own and a couple of free throws that led to Guilford trailing by six (60-54). Although GC played well defensively, the Generals out scored the Quakers 15-6 to win by 15.

Hinson paced the Quakers with a career-high 26 points and seven steals while also corralling six rebounds. Gauldin finished the night with 25 points.

The Quakers shot 37.1% (23-62) from the field while the Generals shot 48.2% (27-56). The Generals also out rebounded the Quakers 47-27.

Guilford will remain at home on Sunday against Shenandoah for senior day. The start time will be at 2:00 p.m.
