Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Quakers Welcome the Hornets on Senior Day

The Guilford College women's basketball team battled the Shenandoah Hornets Sunday afternoon, ultimately falling 70-50.

Prior to the game, the team honored several seniors including Calyn Davis (C'21), team manager Hunter Neal, Lindsay Gauldin and J'la Hinson.

Just five seconds into the first period, Shenandoah (17-5, 11-5) was off to a hot start by scoring the first two points. Guilford (6-14, 4-11) was able to stay right behind the Hornets and tied the score on four occasions. Guilford took the lead (17-16) with 31 seconds left in the first with a free throw by Gauldin.

Opening the second, Shenandoah tied the score again at 9:47 and eventually took the lead by scoring eight solid points back-to-back, 28-20. Towards the end of the second, the Hornets began to expand on their lead.

Although the Quakers were falling behind, they did not give up as Hinson made a clean three pointer with a minute left. The Hornets ended the first half with a jumper, leading by 13 points, 39-26.

Opening the third stanza, Caroline Wilkerson came through with a good three pointer within seconds assisted by Hinson. Shortly after, Shenandoah scored six-straight, increasing its lead to 15 (45-30).

After the Hornets' consecutive scoring, the Quakers put up 10 more points with the help from Gauldin, Hinson, Ashtyn Zeigler, and Carleigh Perry. Unfortunately the offensive push was not enough as Shenandoah led 58-40 going to the final 10 minutes of regulation.

The fourth was very much the same as the third with the Hornets in control of the game. The visitors went on to win, 70-50.

Gauldin paced the Quakers with 13 points and three steals while also corralling two rebounds. Zeigler finished the night with 11 points while Hinson finished with 10 points.

The Quakers shot 66.7% (16-24) from the free throw line while the Hornets shot 78.3% (18-23). The Hornets also out rebounded the Quakers 47-27.

Guilford will travel to Virginia to play Randolph on Thursday, February 17. The start time will be at 5:30 p.m.
