The Guilford College baseball team faced Tufts University in a non-conference matchup. The Quakers fell to the Jumbos, 22-5.
Tufts (6-0) opened the game with five runs on five hits in the first inning. In the bottom of the second,
Chase Wade singled down the left field line to bring home
Grayson Tudor.Â
In the ensuing inning, the Jumbos added two more runs on three hits to go ahead by six (7-1). In the bottom of the third,
Bryce Vestal scored on a balk.
Tufts added four runs in the fourth and nine runs sixth to increase its lead, 20-2. In the bottom of the sixth,
Jacob Phillips doubled to score Tudor.
The next at-bat,
Clay Dilday hit a sacrifice fly to center as Wade tagged up from third. Phillips later scored in the inning on a wild pitch.
The scoring concluded in the top of the seventh when the visitors added two more runs and went on to win.
Vestal and Phillips each collected two hits while Tudor scored two runs.Â
Guilford will host Emory & Henry College on Friday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m.
