The Guilford College men's lacrosse team faced the Falcons of Pfeiffer University at Appenzeller Field. The Quakers fell to the Falcons, 15-6.
Pfeiffer (3-1) scored the game's first goal at the 13:09 mark. At 9:57,
Nick Honkomp tied the game with a man-up goal off a pass from
Joseph Hirvonen.
Tied 1-1, Guilford (2-3) took the lead as Honkomp scored his second of the game with an assist from
Anthony Barnes Jr.
The Quakers held the lead for little over two minutes until the Falcons evened the game at two. Pfeiffer recaptured the lead and went ahead by two with goals 53 seconds apart. The visitors led 4-2 going to the second.
Majority of play in the second was controlled by the Falcons as they scored four-straight to lead 8-2. GC ended the stretch with a goal from
Andrew Burch. Pfeiffer led 8-3 as the halftime horn sounded.
The third was all Falcons as they netted all seven goals in the period. They held a 12-goal edge as the game went to the final 15 minutes of regulation.
In the fourth, Guilford scored three goals, all off the stick of Honkomp as Hirvonen picked up an assist. GC ultimately fell, 15-6.
Honkomp finished the day with five goals while Hirvonen tallied two assists.
Wyatt Dwyer corralled six ground balls and caused four turnovers.
Ryan Reed started in net and stopped 12 shots on the afternoon.
Guilford will travel to Roanoke, Virginia on Saturday, March 12 for the first conference game of the year against the Maroons. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
