Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gauldin's Late Layup Lifts GC over Lynchburg

The Guilford Quakers women's basketball team traveled to the University of Lynchburg to take on the Hornets in a closely contested game. The Quakers edged out the Hornets 83-82 from a last-second bucket by Lindsay Gauldin

In the first quarter, there were seven lead changes while both teams struggled to keep the momentum. The first quarter ended 25-21 in favor of Lynchburg.

The Quakers had to fight in the second quarter to maintain a close distance to the Hornets, finding themselves down nine with three minutes left in the half. Coming out of a timeout, J'la Hinson made a layup, followed by a three-pointer by Gauldin to keep them within striking distance. Lynchburg held the advantage at the half, 43-36.

The start of the second half was a shaky one for Guilford, finding themselves down 15 quickly. The Quakers responded with a nine-point run to bring themselves back in the hunt. From there, Guilford was able to take the lead with a layup from Courtney McMillan to make the score 57-55. The Quakers ended up outscoring the hosts by 15 (27-12) in the period and led 63-55.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Guilford gave up a small run to the Hornets and found themselves in a back-and-forth ending. With 35 seconds left, Gauldin made one of two free throws to make the score 82-79. McMillan then drew a foul and knocked down both free throw attempts to cut the deficit to one. With a much-needed defensive stop and a steal by McMillan, the Quakers ran the floor leading to the game-winning layup made by Gauldin to make the final score 83-82.

The leaders for Guilford were Gauldin with 30 points, five rebounds and six steals. Carleigh Perry added16 points, three assists, and three steals while Anna Giannopoulou with 12 points six rebounds, and three steals.
