Women's Basketball Cruises to Road Win

The Guilford College women's basketball team hit the road to face William Peace University. A strong second half by the Quakers led the way to an 84-62 victory.

Courtney McMillan led the way for Guilford with a double-double, scoring 18 points while grabbing 13 rebounds.

To open the first period, Guilford (4-0) jumped out to a 12-4 lead with three-point shots from Ashtyn Zeigler, Jermia Walker and Zoe Bayer. William Peace (2-4) stayed with the Quakers for the remainder of the period. GC led 23-16 going to the second.

Guilford started the second hot with an 8-0 run as Taylor Dunn and Amara Harrell buried threes. From there, the Pacers went on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit back to seven (33-26). The hosts slowly chipped away at the difference, closing on a 9-2 run to trail by three (38-35) at the half.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half of the third period. With 5:41 on the clock, the Quakers scored 11-straight points including four from Anna Giannopoulou. The visitors held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the period and led 65-52.

In the fourth, Guilford kept its grasp on the lead and a 7-0 run expanded the lead to 22 points (78-56). The Quakers held that advantage for the final four-plus minutes to secure the road win.

Joining McMillan in double-digit points was Giannopoulou with 14 points while Zeigler scored an additional 11 points. GC won the rebound battle 61-35 including 13 rebounds from Carleigh Perry.

Guilford returns home on Saturday, December 2 to face Eastern Mennonite University in a conference matchup. Start time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
