Women's Basketball Falls in Regular Season Finale

The Guilford College women's basketball hosted their last ODAC matchup against Randolph-Macon College. The Quakers fell to the Yellow Jackets, 53-46.

The game started off hot with the Yellow Jackets scoring on back-to-back shots to take the 5-0 lead. Guilford was able to end their score streak with a layup from Lindsay Gauldin. The visitors held their advantage for the remainder of the period leading 14-9 going to the second.

Guilford kept pace with Randolp-Macon as Gauldin started the second quarter with another layup in the paint. As both teams exchanged points, Carleigh Perry was able to tie the score 18-18 with 5:26 on the clock. Both squads continued to exchange baskets until the end of second. The Yellow Jackets hit two free throws with 16 seconds left to hold a 27-26 edge at the break.

After a scoreless first two minutes into the third, Perry laid one in to give GC the one-point (28-27) lead. As the crowd started to get rowdy, the visitors recaptured its lead.

Following a three by Ashtyn Zeigler, the Yellow Jackets scored 12 of the final 13 points to expand their lead to nine (41-32) going to the final 10 minutes of regulation.

Throughout the fourth and final period, the Quakers tried to chip away at the difference but were unable to do so. Randolph-Macon went on to win by the seven-point margin.

Zeigler finished with nine points while Giannopoulou and Courtney McMillian both finished with seven points. Giannopoulou also led the Quakers with eight rebounds. 

The Quakers will travel to Salem, Virginia for the ODAC tournament to battle Randolph College in the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 23. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m.
