The Guilford College women's soccer team opened the 2023 season on the road against Mary Baldwin University. Two second half goals from
Mya Rivera gave the Quakers the 2-0 victory.
The first half was an even battle between the two teams. Mary Baldwin put three shots on goal but
Ady Franken kept the score sheet clean as the game went to halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Guilford wasted little time as
Mya Rivera found the back of the net just 4:16 into the half. From that point, the Quakers began to control the action.
In the 67th minute, Rivera scored her second of the match to double the GC lead. Franken made one more save to secure the win.
The Quakers registered seven shots on goal compared to the five from the hosts. Franken made all five saves in the 90-minute win.
Guilford opens the home portion of its season on Wednesday, September 6 against Brevard College. First kick is set for 7:00 p.m.
