Women's Soccer Dominant in Home Opener

The Guilford College women's soccer team opened the home portion of the schedule against Brevard College. The Quakers were dominant in the game with a 3-0 victory.

From the opening kick, Guilford grasped control of the game and did not look back. The Quakers fired off five shots including one on goal that was stopped.

The game remained scoreless until the 28th minute when a GC free kick found its way into the box. The ball ricocheted off a Brevard defender right to Baylee Greenwood, who headed the ball over the keeper for the opening goal.

Just a few minutes later, Crystal Rivas stripped a Tornado defender of the ball and pushed it forward. Brevard's netminder, Nicole Arroyo, came out a tried to play the ball but misjudged it as the free ball found an open Greenwood for the simple goal.

From that point forward, Guilford kept the pressure on and maintained the 2-0 advantage going into halftime.

In the second half, the Quakers picked up right were they left off by controlling the possession. In the 55th minute, Olivia Santos took a corner kick and delivered the ball into the box. At this point, Mya Rivera did the rest with a header over the goalie for the third goal in the contest and her third on the short season.

Guilford kept a clean sheet the rest of the way for the 3-0 win. GC had 13 total shots with four on goal while it held the visitors to zero shots and only two corners.

Up next for Guilford (2-0) is a road game at Emory University on Saturday, September 9. First kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
