Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Bested in Raleigh

The Guilford College women's volleyball opened play in the Raleigh Invitational against Central College (Iowa) and Meredith College. The Quakers fell in both matches, 3-0.

Game 1: Central 3, Guilford 0

Guilford and Central went back and forth with a close scoring set until the very end. Tied at 23, the Dutch closed the set with two kills to go ahead 1-0.

The second frame was less competitive, as Central got an early lead and never let it go. The Dutch achieved a five-point and seven-point run at the end of the set leading them to victory, 25-10.

Set three started in favor of Guilford, 8-3, thanks to kills by Natalie Moore, Paige McDonald, Chrisbel Alcantara, and Madison Bozarth. However, this lead was quickly lost as Central uses runs of eight-point and seven-point run to close the set, 25-15 and ultimately the match.

Game 2: Meredith 3, Guilford 0

Playing against the Meredith College Angles, Guilford opened up set one with a lead. Once tied at seven, the Angels took over and did not look back. The Quakers struggled to keep up, falling 25-14 in the set.

Set two was very competitive from start to finish. Guilford came out full force, leading the first half of the set. Meredith had a seven-point run mid-set, putting it ahead of the Quakers, 20-18.

Guilford did not let the lead last long as an error followed by a Bozarth ace tied it at 20. Unfortunately, the hosts won five of the final seven points for the 25-22 set win.

The third set ended very similar to set two. Guilford and Meredith exchanged leads until the set was tied at 20. Once again, the Angels claimed five of the final seven points for the win.

The Quakers remain in Raleigh, N.C. for their next two matches which take place on Saturday, September 9 against Piedmont University at 12:00 p.m. and William Peace University at 4:00 p.m.
