Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Quakers Bounce Back in Day 2 of Raleigh Invitational

The Guilford College women's volleyball team had a quick turnaround from yesterday's performance, as today they dominated at the Raleigh Invitational against both Piedmont University (3-0) and William Peace University (3-2).

Game 1: Guilford 3, Piedmont 0

Guilford showed up for day two of the competition allowing Piedmont to score the first point of the game, then setting up a massive 13-point run. The Lions were able to get on the board but not by much as the Quakers got a six-point advantage, eventually ending the set, 25-8.

In set two, the competition was heightened. The Lions played pretty even with the Quakers until the score was tied at nine. From there, Guilford kept adding points, to an eventual win of 25-20.

After the first five points of set three, Piedmont was playing catch up for the rest of the contest. Guilford clutched a four and five-point run, leading them to conclude 25-17, winning the match 3-0.

Natalie Moore and Maddi Page were the star players of the afternoon. Moore achieved 14 kills and six aces, personally scoring a total of 20 points for her team. Page was a key contributor as she racked up 37 assists. Additionally, Guilford tallied a .422 hitting percentage.

Game 2: Guilford 3, William Peace 2

For set one, the Quakers and Pacers were neck and neck with both teams inching a few points at a time. Tensions were high as the game was tied at 24. A service error and an attack error led to the hosts taking the set, 26-24.

Guilford led early in set two, until it was tied at 11. Playing with valiant effort, the Quakers struggled to keep up with the Pacers for the rest of the set, ending with a score of 25-17.

No doubt was on the minds of the Quakers in set three. Currently an underdog in the match, the team did not go down without a fight. The set was filled with 15 Quaker kills, leading them to a 25-16 victory.

With newfound motivation in set four, Guilford opened with a slight lead. The teams exchanged small runs, tying at six. From there, Guilford continued climbing up the scoreboard to win 25-17.

With the match even at 2-2, it was anyone's game but Guilford persevered. Only needing 15 points in set five, the Quakers played full force. Moore scored game point with a kill to hand the Quakers the 15-9 set win and the overall match, 3-2.

Guilford is set to take on Roanoke College on Wednesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
