Quakers Catch Fire to Sweep Roanoke in ODAC Showdown

Guilford hits .302 as a team in stellar performance against Maroons

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College volleyball team (13-8, 5-5 ODAC) earned a crucial conference victory Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep (25-20, 25-14, 25-21) over Roanoke College (9-12, 4-7 ODAC) inside Ragan-Brown Field House.

The Quakers put together one of their most complete performances of the season, hitting .302 as a team. Natalie Moore (Talbott, Tenn.) led the charge with 14 kills, while Jillian Mapes (Hodges, S.C.) directed the offense with 33 helpers. Madison Duvall (Sophia, N.C.) was a wall up front with four blocks, while Angel Brown (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) added three. Sheryangelis Cay Barbosa (Juncos, Puerto Rico) kept the momentum rolling from the service line with three aces and five digs, and Vivian Cavataio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) anchored the defense with 11 digs.

For Roanoke, Emma Catoe led the way with 11 kills, while Teagan Hubble collected 13 digs and Raygan Wade dished out 21 assists. Sidney Alumbaugh added a strong all-around effort with nine kills and 12 digs.

After a tight opening frame, Guilford pulled ahead late behind key kills from Moore and Chrisbel Alcantara (San Juan, Puerto Rico) to take the set, 25-20.

The second was all Quakers, as Kaci Johnson (Winterville, N.C.) delivered four kills in the frame, and Guilford dominated on both sides of the ball to roll to a 25-14 victory.

The Quakers kept their momentum in the third, using a timely kill from Zoe Whisnant (Greensboro, N.C.) to fend off a late Roanoke rally and complete the sweep, 25-21.

The Quakers return to Jack Jensen Court on Friday, October 24th, to face the Flying Fleet of Erskine College. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
