Williams Named To All-ODAC First Team for Softball, Gray Joins Her on Third Team

Becomes sixth freshman named All-ODAC in program history, first on First Team since 2017

FOREST, Va. – Posting a brilliant freshman campaign in the middle of the order for the Guilford College softball team, Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) was recognized for her efforts by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), getting named to the All-ODAC First Team while Shiloh Gray (Lexington, N.C.) accompanied her on the Third Team as announced by the conference offices on Tuesday afternoon.

Williams becomes just the sixth freshman in program history to earn All-ODAC recognition, but only the second to make the All-ODAC First Team after Kayli Blankenship '20 did so in 2017. She receives the honor at the Designated Player position, becoming the fourth Quaker to make All-ODAC as the DP, but the first to be named to the First Team at that position. As for Gray, she becomes the softball program's 12th multi-time All-ODAC selection, having been named to the All-ODAC Third Team the last two years.

Playing in 37 of the Quakers' 40 games this spring with 35 starts, Williams posted a .383/.464/.585 triple-slash with all three of those marks ranking within the top-ten in the ODAC, peaking at fourth in slugging percentage, a figure that is good for seventh in program history. Racking up 37 hits, third-most on the team, she bashed a team-leading ten doubles, tied for ninth-most in the league, on top of three home runs, and a team-high 24 runs batted in, ranking tied for 14th in the ODAC. Williams also had more walks than strikeouts with her 15 free passes leading the squad. She upped her game in conference play as well, registering a team-leading .404/.491/.660 triple slash with six doubles and two home runs, both of which are tied for third-most in the conference inside of league action. She also drove in a team-high 13 runs, more than double that of any other Quaker, and posted a 1.151 OPS that ranks fourth in the league. Williams collected six multi-hit showings in conference action.

An at-large honoree to the All-ODAC Third Team for the second-straight year, this time as a utility, Gray flipped her script from previous seasons when her work in the circle ruled. The Quakers ace had some trouble this year across 18 appearances and 16 starts, pitching just 93.0 innings, her lowest total since she was a freshman. During that time toeing the slab, she had a 4.89 ERA and 1.60 WHIP, although she did still pitch ten complete games, seventh-most in the ODAC and ranking 203rd in Division-III Softball at the conclusion of conference tournaments nationwide. The senior did, however, more than make up for it with her top offensive season to date. Slashing a superb .406/.468/.490 at the dish over 96 at-bats in 35 games including 33 starts, Gray paced the team in batting average with her mark ranking seventh in the league, and she was tied for the team-lead in hits with 39. Her on-base percentage of .468 and her OPS of .958 were also good for top-ten marks in the conference, slotting seventh and tenth respectively while her .490 slugging was good for 23rd. Only eight of Gray's knocks went for extra-bases, all of them doubles, and she came around to score herself a dozen times, although her spot in the lineup scored on many more occasions via pinch runners and her 15 runs batted in also were third-most on the team. The two-way star recorded seven multi-hit performances in ODAC action, among them a trio of three-hit showings.

The Quakers completed the season 16-24 overall and 7-15 in ODAC play, narrowly missing the conference tournament as a team this season.
