FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Guilford College softball team (3-0-1, 0-0 ODAC) continued their road campaign for a pair against Methodist University (2-6, 0-0 USA South) on Saturday afternoon. The Quakers rolled in game one, driven by
Shiloh Gray's (Lexington, N.C.) one-hitter against the Monarchs for a 2-0 victory, however flipping the script in game two in a back-and-forth clash that rolled into extras,
Dillon Northen's (Kernersville, N.C.) game-sealing strikeout in the tenth lands the Quakers a 7-5 victory at Price Field.
Shiloh Gray (Kernersville, N.C.) lands her first start of her 2026 campaign for Guilford, pitching a gem of 7.0 innings, striking out five, while surrendering one hit and one error in the process for the win to go 1-0 on the year.
Kiersten Margoupois, drew the nod for Methodist, struggling to find her footing throughout the contest, pitching all 7.0 innings, giving up two runs, both earned, ten hits, and striking out two to receive the loss, dropping to 1-3 on the season.
Chloee Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) topped the Quaker-bats, scoring the game clinching run in her 3-for-3 outing, swiping a bag early in the series opener.
Brooke Goyings (Lake Villa, Ill.) would follow-suit with her 2-for-3 performance, both setting up
Savannah Newton's (Concord, N.C.) game-clinching RBI double.
Minnie Johnson would crack the lone base hit for the Monarchs, finishing 1-for-2 throughout the contest.
Kalissa Williams (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) would receive the start for game two, slipping-up early for Guilford, wrapping up the day with 3.2 innings pitched, giving up three runs off five hits, three walks, and striking out three batters.
Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) would come in relief for the rest of the contest, escaping numerous jams while propelling the Quakers victorious while throwing 6.1 innings, dropping two runs from three hits and striking out four to advance to 2-0 on the season.
Mia Wraight faltered in her start for game two for Methodist, pitching 7.1 innings, while conceding four runs, one earned from eleven hits, two walks, and striking out two. Kiersten Margoupis would enter in relief for the Monarchs, not faring much better for the Monarchs recording 2.2 innings pitched, giving up three runs off two hits and striking out two to drop to 1-4 on the season.
The bats were roaring for Guilford throughout the later-contest, with
Morgan Singletary (Laurel Hill, N.C.) dominating in her 3-for-4 outing, with two RBIs and one stolen base.
Kaylee Harris (Mooresville, N.C.) would follow-suit in her 2-for-4 performance, swiping a bag as well.
Brooke Goyings (Lake Villa, Ill.) would seal the deal in scoring the game-securing run hitting 2-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base.
Haley Downes and Rachel Lawson would strike as the top performers in the Methodist batting order, both recording 2-for-3 with one RBI and one bag swiped in the game.
GAME 1
Shiloh Gray (Kernersville, N.C.) rolled through the first, striking out two batters to kickoff the two game series for the Quakers. Picking up the bunt single,
Chloee Stoner (Salisbury, N.C.) would log a stolen base, before long scoring the game winning run on the back of
Savannah Newton's (Concord, N.C.) double in the top of the fourth.
With the bats becoming cold on both sides,
Shiloh Gray's top-tier performance for Guilford would continue throughout the contest, keeping the Monarch's hitting in check to secure the one-hitter and her first victory of 2026.
GAME 2
Kaylyn Little (Locust, N.C.) would commence game two with a walk, churning the momentum towards the Quakers favor to the eventual bases loaded off rocky pitching by the Monarchs.
Jaylee Byrd (Ronda, N.C.) would strike first in favor of Guilford from her bases loaded walk.
Game two would teeter back-and-forth driving Methodist and Guilford into extra innings, both sides hitting being on fire. In the top of the 10th,
Brooke Goyings (Lake Villa, Ill.) drove a single into right, starting a huge inning of scoring for the Quakers. Byrd would score off the single, eventually driving Goyings to send in another run off the failed Monarchs pickoff attempt at second, leading to the passed ball.
After the three-run inning by Guilford, Rachel Lawson drove in a Methodist run off her single into left center, putting everyone on their feet as the contest would come down to the wire.
Dillon Northen (Kernersville, N.C.) would dial a game-winning strikeout off Bethany Bethancourt to secure the Guilford sweep and Northen's second win on the year.
Guilford returns home for their home opener at Haworth Field, battling out in a duo of clashes against Kenyon College on Sunday, March 1st. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM. Game two is slated for 2:00 PM.
