Greensboro, NC (10/25/00) — Junior Josh Dickens (Raleigh, NC/Leesville) scored twice in the final seven minutes and junior Rob Comegys (Stafford, VA/North Stafford) added a goal and an assist to lead visiting Hampden-Sydney past Guilford, 3-1, Wednesday in the Quakers' final home men's soccer match of the season. Despite their fifth straight loss, Guilford received a bid to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament by virtue of Emory & Henry's 2-0 loss to Bridgewater.
The Quakers (6-9-1, 2-7 ODAC) got on the board first on a 20-yard blast by junior midfielder Noam Sorek (Atlit, Israel/ Ort Hiriat Bialik), but the Tigers (10-8, 5-3 ODAC) responded with Comegys' tally off a Cliff Campbell (Fredericksburg, VA/Massaponax) shot to tie the game at 1-1 at halftime.
The match remained tied late into the second half until Dickens converted a Comegys feed in the 84th minute to give the guests a 2-1 advantage. Dickens struck again four minutes later when he headed in a corner kick by sophomore midfielder Chad Pilcher (Woodstock, GA/Sequovah).
Guilford closes out the regular season this Saturday at crosstown rival Greensboro College at 1:00 P.M.
