Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C.---Greensboro College's Samara Alba tallied a goal and an assist as Guilford College fell to Greensboro in a Wednesday night contest inside Appenzeller Field at Armfield Athletic Center, 2-1.
The Quakers held off the Pride in the first 25 minutes as Greensboro held a 5-1 shot advantage early on. The Quakers moved to even the shot count in the remainder of the half with multiple close offensive chances inside the 18-yard box. As time ran out in the period, Alba created space with a strong dribble to the right, firing a shot from the top of the box in the 43rd minute for the match's first score.
Both teams traded shots to start the second half with both sides playing aggressive offensively. The Pride capitalized on the pressure 65th minute when Alba flicked a pass to Carleigh Roach on the left side, booting the ball on the fly to extend the lead, 2-0.
The Quakers countered with pressure of their own and converted an opportunity into a goal in the 77th minute off a mad scramble in the box. Juliana Evans-Anfom found Annaliese Rutishauser on the right side to cut the lead in half.
Guilford earned the advantage on shots, 15-12, and on corner kicks, 8-4. Greensboro held the advantage on fouls, 13-5, including 11 second-half fouls.
Maggie Albert made three saves in net for the Quakers. Brittany Morrison stopped six shots in net for the Pride.
The Quakers (2-3-1) take to the road Saturday, beginning Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday by facing Bridgewater College at 4 p.m.
