Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford College volleyball team opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference play with a loss at the University of Lynchburg, 3-0. Guilford is now 2-7-0 (0-1-0 ODAC), while Lynchburg moved to 2-5-0 (1-0-0 ODAC).
GC went down 8-0 to open the match, but slowly crept up on the hosts with one-off points here and there. Guilford's only 2-point series came on a Maddi Page service ace and an error by Lynchburg, which forced a timeout, 24-17.
The second set started much differently than the first, as the score was tied thrice in the early goings. The Hornets pulled away on a nine-point run. A kill by Cydney Scott and a Page service ace brought the run to an end. Just a little too late, Lynchburg won the set 25-8.
Lynchburg was all gas in the final set, posting many three-point runs to claim the final stanza, 25-14.
Cam Blankenship led her squad on both sides of the ball, posting six kills and eight digs. She also added a block assist.
Devyn Norman also contributed to Guilford's offensive efforts, posting five kills.
Maddi Page served for two aces, dished out 18 assists and went down for three digs.
The Quakers return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as the Methodist University Monarchs come to town.
