ELON, N.C. - The Guilford College men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Elon Phoenix XC Invitational, hosted by Elon University, on Friday morning. The women's team was unable to qualify for a team score, however the men's team achieved a seventh-place finish overall.
GC's top finisher for the Men's 8k was
Kendal Lowe (Winston-Salem, N.C.) as he placed 57th with a time of 33:31.8. Lowe ran a PR on the 8k course, running 00:57.2 faster than his time at the Yeti Invitational.
Trent Torian (Durham, N.C.) was the next finisher for Guilford as he walked away in 59th place with a new PR of 34:23.4, 01:33.6 faster than the 8k course prior. Right behind him was teammate
Alex Palomares who finished in 60th place with a time of 35:17.7. With just a few seconds later, it was
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) in 61st at 35:28.6. The following Quaker finisher was
JC Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) who placed 63rd with a time of 39:44.5 whereas
Jerome Moore (Mount Olive, N.C.) finished with a time of 40:20.1 and in 64th place.
Guilford's fastest Quaker in the Elon Phoenix XC Invite,
Piper Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.), ran her first collegiate 6k event in 28:14.1, placing 54th overall. Also in her first collegiate 6k,
Natalie Viera (Winston-Salem, N.C.) finished behind Campbell, securing 59th place with a time of 29:49.5. Lastly in the women's results,
Josephine Hemmer (Greenbay, Va.) recorded her first personal time of the season, finishing in 63rd place with a time of 33:44.7.
Cross country is on the decline for the 2024 season as Guilford is set to compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships on Saturday, November 2nd. Start time and meet details have yet to be released.
