CATAWBA, N.C. – Competing at the Fleet Feet Invitational, hosted by Catawba College, the Guilford College men's and women's cross country teams hit the course for the first time on the new season on Saturday morning. Neither Quaker squad factored into team finishes on the day.
A five-team field factored into the team results in the women's 5K race while seven squads finished with scores in the men's 8K. The competition was largely comprised of NCAA Division-II schools with a few Division-III and Junior College schools in attendance.
Piper Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.) was the lone Quaker female to run in the meet, taking 37
th out of the 48 competitors. She opened the new year with a mark 25:56.45 in the 5K race.
Yassine Allam (Holly Springs, N.C.) made his collegiate cross country debut for Guilford, leading the charge with a 54
th place finish for the men on a 37:12.48 mark on the 8K course.
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) followed him in 56
th place, with a time of 38:10.88.
J.C. Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) opened his senior campaign with a 46:29.84 mark and a 65
th place finish just ahead of
Ke'Shaun Alston and his collegiate debut mark of 47:42.07 to place 66
th.
Cross country will return to the course next in two weeks, on September 20
th, to compete at the Yeti Invitational hosted by Cleveland Community College in Shelby, N.C. Start time and meet details have yet to be released. Â
