Greensboro, NC (2/23/05) -- Freshman Johanna Breed scored on a free-position shot 46 seconds into the third overtime to lift Guilford past visiting Greensboro, 11-10, in the women's lacrosse opener for both teams. The victory marked the first for Matthew Grosso, who is in his first season as the Quakers' head coach.

Breed's goal ended an exciting game that saw the Quakers (1-0) jump out to a 5-1 lead 11:35 into the game, only to have the Pride (0-1) rally to take a 9-6 advantage midway through the second half. Guilford rookie Mary Hutchins sparked a 4-1 Quakers' run by scoring three of her career-high six goals in the final 10:43, including the game-tying score with 14 seconds left.

Karen Hall led Greensboro with four goals, including three in the second half. Her final tally with 3:19 left in regulation gave the Pride a 10-9 edge, its last lead of the game. Junior Amanda McGlaughlin enjoyed a solid game with a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. She scored all of her points during the 8-1 Greensboro run that turned the four-goal deficit into a three-goal lead. McGlaughlin also had a shot glance off the post in the first overtime period, which nearly won the game for Greensboro.

Breed and classmate Kelly Gonzales finished with two goals apiece. Freshman Jordan Clodfelter had a goal and an assist before leaving the game with an ankle injury.

Guilford hosts Averett Saturday (2/26) in a nonconference game at 1:00 p.m.
