Quakers Down Sweet Briar, 17-3

Box Score

Greensboro, N.C. (4/9/08) - Senior Mary Hutchins scored a season-high eight points in Guilford College's 17-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse victory over visiting Sweet Briar College Wednesday night.  Hutchins had four goals and four assists as the Quakers (7-4, 3-1 ODAC) won for the seventh time in eight matches.  Sweet Briar drops to 3-6 (0-5 ODAC).

Nine different Quakers scored for Guilford, which spent most of the second half passing the ball around the Sweet Briar end.  Hutchins scored twice and had all four assists in the first half, which helped  the Quakers build a 13-2 advantage.  Guilford scored 10 of the game's first 11 goals held the Vixens' Stewart Hulfish to two points (1 goal, 1 assist), nearly three points below her league-leading average of 4.71 points per game.  Ellie Donahue and Megan Behrle also scored for Sweet Briar.

Hutchins' eight points rank fourth in Guilford history and are the most scored in a game since she hit for a school-record 11 points (7 goals, 4 assists) in a 2007 win over the College of Wooster.  She missed her career high for helpers in a match by one.

Senior Jordan Clodfelter added four points on two goals and two assists for the Quakers.  Teammates Caryn Washington, Kelly Gonzalez, Hannah Merrell and Carolyn Rodda also scored twice in the win.  Sophomore Shelly Noguiera scored once and shared game-high honors with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Guilford outshot the Vixens, 31-14, and converted all four free-position shots.

Guilford sophomore Alyzza-May Callahan improved to 7-1 in goal with six saves in just under 50 minutes.  Lisa Weisbrich had nine stops for the Vixens.

The Quakers visit nationally ranked Washington and Lee University Saturday (4/12) afternoon in a 2:00 p.m. ODAC match.  Sweet Briar hosts Bridgewater College Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. ODAC match.
