Track & Field Battle in Bast-Cregger Multi Invitational

Quakers compete against teams across all divisions in two-day event

SALEM, VA – While facing 37 collegiate teams, against athletes in multiple divisions, the Guilford College track & field team competed at the Bast Cregger Multi Invitational hosted by Roanoke College in the two-day event on Friday Jan. 31 and Saturday Feb. 1.
 
For the third-straight weekend, it was Jaden Jones (Rocky Mount, N.C.) who was Guilford's top finisher in the 200m and 400m as he took 53 out of 100 competitors with a new collegiate-best time of 23.83 in the 200m and had a time of 54.18 in the 400m. Trenten Torain (Durham, N.C.) was the next GC finisher in the 200m taking 88th with a 24.91 mark. Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) and Yassine Allam (Holly Springs, N.C.) finished neck-in-neck placing 92nd and 93rd overall with times of 25.16 (season best) and 25.17, respectively. Jerome Moore (Mount Olive, N.C.) and Marcus Tate (Atlanta, Ga.) both also ran the event, with times of 25.63 and 29.30, respectively.
 
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt) was the top finisher for the Quakers in the 400m, placing 35th overall with a time of 1:12.13. Piper Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.) and Natalie Viera (Winston-Salem, N.C.) competed in the 800m, taking 66th and 79th respectively. Campbell also left the invite with a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:54.69 alongside getting a PR in the mile with a time of 6:28.73.
 
As for the rest of the men's events, Jones, Allam, Torain, and Abdul-Haqq all ran in the 400. Jones recorded a time of 54.18 and placed 27th overall, Allam left with a time of 55.90 placing 40th, Torain had a time of 56.01 placing 42nd, and Abdul-Haqq placed 55th with a time of 1.00.05. In the 800, Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) placed 55th overall with a personal best of 2:25.73 alongside teammate JC Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) who earned a time of 2:32.73, placing 57th. Tate and Abdul-Haqq also competed in the long jump. Abdul-Haqq placed 21st overall and earned a mark of 5.97m while Tate jumped 5.17m and placed 35th.
 
Guilford is right back at Roanoke College next meet as they prepare to battle in the Joe LaRocco Invitational hosted by Roanoke College. Competition is set for Saturday, February 15th.
