SALISBURY, N.C. - The Guilford College track and field team, along with 15 other institutions, battled fiercely at the Livingstone Blue Bear Invitational, hosted by Livingstone College, on Saturday. While the men did not meet the requirements to earn a team score, the women placed 15th overall as a team.
Plenty of PRs went around on the Men's side, starting off for the 100m dash.
Cedric Blowe (Indian Trail, N.C.) was the first Quaker to break the tape and finished with a personal best of 11.63, placing 41st overall. Right on his heels was
Malik Hargrove (Warren County, N.C.) at 11.64 placing 42nd alongside
Jadyn Swinson (LaGrange, N.C.) in 43rd with a time of 11.66, a PR.
Jerome Moore (Mount Olive, N.C.) ended the 100m with a season record of 11.80, placing 47th while
Seth Almand (Barre, Vt.) finished 52nd with a PR of 12.25.
Every Quaker who competed in the 200m dash achieved a new personal best at the invitational.
Yassine Allam (Holly Springs, N.C.) finished in 48th place overall with a time of 23.96 while
Kendal Lowe (Winston-Salem, N.C.) was next up for GC in 49th at 24.06.
Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) was the third Quaker that scored in the 200, placing 50th with a time of 24.30 along with Swinson in 51st at 24.34.
In the 400, three runners scored: Allam, Lowe, and
Enzo Geremski (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Allam finished in 29th overall with a time of 53.35, Lowe ended up in 33rd with a 54.15, a PR, and Geremski recorded his first time of the outdoor season at 56.54, placing 36th. As for the 800m run,
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) placed 31st with a personal record of 2:23.12 while
JC Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) followed in 35th place with a season record of 2:30.06. Harway also competed in the 400m Hurdles and was the lone Quaker in this event, placing 23rd with a PR of 1:08.76.
The field events saw some success with
Akeem Kaiuway (Greensboro, N.C.) finishing 30th in the Shot with a throw of 8.94m, a PR. He left with another personal best in the Discus with a throw of 25.72m, placing 30th. Abdul-Haqq and Almand both partook in the Long Jump, placing 13th and 35th, respectively. Abdul-Haqq cracking the top 20 solidified a new personal record with a jump of 6.42m while Almand finished with a PR of 5.49m.
Switching gears to the Women's side,
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt) was the lone wolf in the 400m Hurdles as she placed eighth overall with a personal record of 1:21.23. Parnell is no stranger to the sand as she also competed in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.08m, placing 23rd.
Guilford heads to Hickory, N.C. to participate in the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University on Friday, April 11th through Sunday, April 13th. Time is TBA.
