SALEM, VA – The Guilford College track & field team competed against 30 teams across the NCAA Division III in the Joe LaRocco Invitational hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday morning.
Bess Parnell (Cairo, Egypt) was the lone female finisher representing GC in the 400m alongside Women's Long Jump. In the dash, she earned a time of 1:10.52, placing her in 27th place. As for her field event, Parnell jumped a PR of 4.47m placing 23rd place overall.
Piper Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.) was the top female Quaker finisher in the 800m with a time of 2:53.44, a new personal best, placing 38th.
On the men's side,
Jadyn Swinson (LaGrange, N.C.),
Malik Hargrove (Warren County, N.C.), and
Ahmaad Abdul-Haqq (Greensboro, N.C.) all scored in the 200m finals. Swinson was the top male Quaker and placed 44th with a time of 24.84, a personal record. Hargrove was right on his heels, placing 46th with a PR of 24.95 while teammate Abdul-Haqq finished in 49th place with a time of 25.19. There were three Quakers that scored in the 400m:
Yassine Allam (Holly Springs, N.C.), who placed 29th with a time of 54.87,
Trenten Torain (Durham, N.C.), who was right behind Allam, had a time of 54.88, and placed 30th, and
Kendel Lowe (Winston-Salem, N.C.), who finished in 42nd place with a PR of 56.33. In the mid-distance race,
Jeremy Harway (Apex, N.C.) and
JC Yañez (Thomasville, N.C.) finished 49th and 52nd, respectively. Harway finished with a time of 2:27.24 while Yañez ended with 2:32.17. In the Men's Long Jump,
Seth Almond had a jump of 5.09m and had a 40th place finish and
Marcus Tate (Atlanta, Ga.) placed 41st with a jump of 4.94m.
The Quakers test their might against the best in the conference while competing in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships hosted by Roanoke College. The two-day meet is set for Saturday, March 1st and Sunday, March 2nd. Start time TBA.
