Quakers aim to advance to ODAC Semifinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The sixth-seeded Guilford College women's basketball team (15-10, 9-7 ODAC) is making their 18th consecutive postseason appearance as they prepare to face the third-seeded Generals of Washington & Lee University (22-3, 14-2 ODAC) in the Quarterfinals in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament on Tuesday, February 25 in Holekamp Gym in Lexington, Va.
 
Guilford College last won an ODAC tournament game in the 2021-2022 season, with their most recent semifinal appearance coming in 2019-2020. The Quakers ended the regular season with a senior day win over Hollins, 79-47, but faced challenges down the stretch, winning just four of their final ten games. In their recent matchup, the nationally ranked Washington & Lee outlasted Guilford 69-53. Top performances for GC came from Anna Giannopoulou (Athens, Greece) with 12 points, four boards, and three steals while teammates Courtney McMillan (Lexington, N.C.) and Zoe Bayer (Les Sables d'Olonne, France) both had nine points apiece. Sarah Zimmerman put on a show with 20 points, seven boards, three steals, and two blocks. Mary Schleusner was another bright spot for the Generals as she scored 13 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks, and five assists.

Guilford's season has featured standout individual performances. McMillan leads the charge with 12.8 points per game, shooting 49.4% from the field, grabbing 6.0 rebounds, and recording a team-high 66 steals. She ranks fourth in the ODAC and 100th nationally in free-throw percentage (87%). Bayer is another vital piece of the puzzle in Guilford's offense with 12.6 points per game, shooting 45.8% from the floor and leading the team with an 84.7% free-throw rate. Briahna Scott (Graham, N.C.) adds 7.7 points per game, shooting 36.4% with 51 steals for the Quakers as the third-leading scorer.

Mary Schleusner leads the Generals, earning five ODAC Player of the Week honors this season, including three straight. She tops the conference with 21.3 points and 19.1 rebounds per game, ranks eighth in field goal percentage (45.2%), dishes out 2.5 assists, and is second in blocked shots (2.8 per game). Quinn McGuinness follows with 9.8 points per game, shooting nearly 80% from the free-throw line, 33% from three, and grabbing 4.3 rebounds. Sarah Zimmerman adds 9.3 points, 71.2% free-throw shooting, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.

The Quakers and Generals are set to clash at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to the semifinals on Friday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center to face the victor of the seventh vs. second seed matchup.
